Valhöll CC18 is an all-tube amplifier handmade in Finland from high-quality components. The
components are placed on the turret plate and wired by hand, which guarantees operational reliability
and top-quality tonal properties. Valhöll CC18 is designed to serve today's guitarist, who wants an
extremely responsive sound from the amplifier. Everything from sparkling clean to lushly compressed
distortion, even at moderate volumes. A sound that is open and pleasant even when using the guitar's
own volume knob.
The preamp stage has two inputs, I and II, of which I is more sensitive. The input sensitivity of both
inputs can be boosted with the Boost On switch found on the front panel. The function can also be
switched with a footswitch pedal. There are two front stage volume controls: High treble and Low End
Volume, both of which are active at the same time. With the right combination of these, you can
emphasize bright distinctiveness, as well as dark and round fullness.
Another Valhöll specialty, the Burn function, which works with a panel switch and a footswitch pedal,
adds an extra preamp tube to the signal path. Burn thightens the bass frequencies of the sound and
boosts the middle and presence frequensies. In this way, you get gain, sustain in solos, and
distinctiveness in band playing. With the Burn Level adjustment, you can get a dramatic solo boost if you
want, but you can also use the function to clarify, for example, your rhythm and chord playing, without
volume amplification. Note that both priority volumes are always available, and their position also has an
effect on the Burn sound.
The three-zone tone section includes treble, middle and bass control. The Master Volume is at the end of
the signal path, after the last preamp tube (PPI i.e. post phase inverter master control), just before the
output tubes. Unlike many PPI masters, Valhöll CC18 - Master Volume works in a balanced way
throughout the adjustment range, without making the sound grainy.
The power amp stage is cathode-biased. Therefore, changing the power tubes does not require
adjusting the bias voltage. In the power stage, the negative feedback found in most amplifiers, which
dulls the sound, is also not used. The sound of the main stage is open-sounding and warmly
compressed.
On the back panel there is an Ext Speaker connection and a Slave connection. Slave is an output
derived from the final transformer, with which you can transfer the authentic Valhöll sound to the clean
input of the next amplifier or, for example, to the return of the effect loop. Try it!
The Int Speaker Mute switch mutes Valhöll's own speaker and switches on an artificial load, so you can
safely use, for example, another amplifier via the Slave connection without Valhöll's speaker.
